    MLRO

The Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) is the senior person at a UK regulated firm responsible for receiving internal money-laundering concerns and filing Suspicious Activity Reports with the National Crime Agency.

Every UK accountancy practice, law firm, and other regulated business must appoint an MLRO. The role is personal and accountable — the MLRO must be sufficiently senior to exercise independent judgement, must have access to all relevant client information, and is named to the firm's supervisor (such as ICAEW or SRA). The MLRO decides whether suspicions reported internally meet the threshold for an external Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) to the NCA.
