    ECCT Act 2023

The Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 is the UK statute that strengthened Companies House from a passive registry into an active gatekeeper, introducing director identity verification, ACSP-mediated filings, and new failure-to-prevent fraud offences.

Key changes phased in from 2024-2026 include: mandatory identity verification for all new and existing directors and PSCs, Authorised Corporate Service Providers (ACSPs) regulated to mediate filings, faster Companies House decisions on company names and registered offices, expanded data-sharing between Companies House and law enforcement, and a new corporate criminal offence of failure to prevent fraud for large organisations. The Act represents the biggest reform of UK corporate transparency in over 150 years.
