    Glossary

    Companies House

Companies House is the UK government agency that registers and stores public information on every UK company, LLP, and limited partnership.

It maintains the public register, processes incorporations, accepts annual accounts and confirmation statements, and (since the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023) verifies the identity of directors and PSCs. Most filings are now done online through the Companies House WebFiling service or via accounting software with a Companies House API connection. Companies House also has limited enforcement powers — striking companies off the register for persistent non-filing, and prosecuting officers in default in serious cases.
