ILR
Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) is permission to live and work in the UK indefinitely without immigration restrictions — sometimes called "permanent residence" or "settlement".
Most Skilled Worker visa holders qualify after 5 continuous years on a qualifying visa (the route can change mid-period — combining Skilled Worker and Tier 2 General time counts). Other routes have different residency requirements: 10 years for long residence, 3 years for spouse of a British citizen, 2 years for some Global Talent and Innovator Founder holders. ILR application requires Life in the UK test, English language test, no excessive absences (under 180 days per year in most cases), and a £2,885 fee per person (2024 rate).
