    Glossary

    DPA 2018

The Data Protection Act 2018 is the UK statute that sits alongside UK GDPR, implementing the GDPR in domestic law, covering law enforcement processing, and providing UK-specific derogations.

Key UK-specific provisions: special categories of personal data (health, biometric, genetic), conditions for processing criminal offence data, exemptions for journalism and freedom of expression, the role of the Information Commissioner, and the offences (unlawful obtaining of personal data, re-identification of de-identified data). UK GDPR is the day-to-day framework; the DPA 2018 fills gaps and provides the enforcement architecture.
