UK trademark registration: how it works and what it costs
A UK trademark registration protects a brand name, logo, or slogan in specific classes of goods and services. You apply through the Intellectual Property Office (IPO), pay £170 for one class plus £50 for each additional class, and the process takes 4-6 months for a straightforward application. A registered trademark gives you exclusive rights to use the mark and to stop others using anything confusingly similar.
Protecting business IP: a practical UK guide
UK business intellectual property (IP) covers trademarks, copyrights, patents, designs, and trade secrets. Each has different rules and different costs. For most UK SMEs, the practical priorities are: get trademarks on the brand name, ensure employees and contractors sign IP assignment clauses, protect trade secrets through NDAs and access controls, and decide whether anything is patentable.
